  2. What fables (myths) do you suppose Paul was referring to?
  3. Why do you think genealogies would be “endless”.
  4. Why would Paul say the law was not made for the righteous?
March 30 I Timothy 1:12-20
  1. Why would Paul concentrate on how bad he had been?
  2. How much do you believe ignorance excuses bad behavior? (Why does Paul appeal to his ignorance?)
  3. How do you feel one can make “shipwreck” the faith?
  4. If you were going to hand someone over to Satan, how would you do it?
April 6 I Timothy 2:1-7
  1. Is it really necessary for Christians to pray for all men? Why?
  2. If we pray for government, what should we ask God for? (What might our prayers be for government today?)
  3. Is it necessarily true that Christ’s mediatorship excludes all others? (Don’t we pray for each other?)
April 13 I Timothy 2:8-15
  1. Why do you believe Paul emphasized that men should pray? Is it possible he used “men” as a general word (such as “mankind” to include both men and women?)
  2. Why does Paul define women’s role in such a “politically incorrect” way?
  3. Do you have any clue what Paul meant when he said women would be saved through child-bearing?

  1. Can we use this passage as a “check-list” for bishop (overseer) qualifications? How?
  2. Is “desire” one of the qualifications an overseer must have?
  3. Must each man have these qualities in the absolute sense?

  2. What do you make of Paul’s reason for not enrolling younger widows?
  3. Why do you think Paul lays the first responsibility for widows on their relatives? Is there any occasion when the church might need to step in ahead of relatives to care for widows?

  3. Why was it necessary for Paul to quote the image of a laborer and an ox?
  4. Why do we need 2 or 3 witnesses to bring a charge against an elder?
  5. Should we use a little wine for stomach trouble today?

  1. Would it be right for us to have slaves today? Why not? If they were allowed to have them, why can’t we?
  2. What if we as Christians became political slaves to unbelieving masters, would we be obligated to obey them? Why not?
  3. How would you have felt in the lst century if you (as a Christian) became the slave of a Christian master?
June 29 I Timothy 6:6-10
  1. What should we do with people who in Paul’s words have an “unhealthy craving for controversy?”
  2. Can we be content with only food and clothing as Paul states?
  3. If we can’t, why can’t we? What did Paul mean?
  4. Is the desire to be rich all bad?
  5. Why is the love of money the root of all kinds of evil?
July 6 I Timothy 6:11-16
  1. What is the “good confession”?
  2. How did Jesus make the good confession before Pilate?
  3. What kind of fight (in Paul’s words) is a “good fight”
July 13 I Timothy 6:17-21
  1. Why are the rich exhorted not to be haughty/high-minded?
  2. If you are rich or even moderately rich, how can you show that you are handling your riches properly in God’s sight?
  3. Why do you think Paul calls riches “uncertain”?
