Supporting the Well-Being of Children at Waterview

Behold, children are a gift of the Lord...  Proverbs 14:26

Our Mission
for Children and Youth...

  • Enhance their love for God and their Savior, Jesus Christ
  • Deepen their spiritual roots
  • Strengthen them for their walk of faith

Our Vision
To be a church that...

  • Attracts children, both our own and others, so that they might hear about the love of Jesus
  • Attracts parents by virtue of our concern for children
  • Provides spiritual support and resources to families as they build Christian homes
  • Displays to children a real and active God as we share with them our faith
  • Guides children as they develop their own relationship with Jesus
  • Fosters healthy peer relationships for every child
  • Provides children with opportunities to learn about and practice Christian living and service
  • Sows the Word of God in the hearts of children

To protect our ability to do this, we must be a church firmly committed to the emotional, spiritual and physical safety of our children.

It is with this spirit and heart that we share with you our policy for Supporting the Well-being of our Children and Youth.

"As the Father has loved me,
so I have loved you ..."
John 15:9

Policy for Supporting the Well-Being of Our Children

Primary Features involving our Children's Ministry and Youth Ministry:

  • To only use volunteers who have applied, been screen and approved
  • To use volunteers who have been members of our congregation for at least three months, except for special cases where appropriate references have been thoroughly checked
  • To have at least two approved workers with our children during classes and organized activities
  • To have all children under the 6th grade checked in and out of classes by their parents
Note: While the policy requires (and the Waterview eldership urges) parents to check their children into class and pick them up from class, parents can sign a form that will release their children to their own recognizance and allow them to come and go without adult supervision.
  • To provide visibility into our children's classrooms
  • To provide training and information to our volunteers about supporting the well-being of our children
  • That all concerns and suggestions regarding the safety and care of our children will be taken seriously

Our complete, written policy is available in the church office and will also be distributed during volunteer training.

The Waterview policy for Supporting the Well-Being of Children is in place because we are committed to being proactive in the care and keeping of children.  While this is true, the requirements of insurance companies for Safety Policies in churches has hastened the implementation of our own policy, and rightfully so.

Parents' Participation

A high standard of ministry to children and youth demands a strong partnership between staff, volunteers and parents.

Together, we are the Children's and Youth Ministries.
Together, we can provide a safe, nurturing environment in which we can bring our children to the Lord.

What we ask of parents as partners:

  • Prayer, for our children, our parents and other volunteers who minister to them
  • Alertness, responsibility, and thoughtfulness to your child's needs, to the needs of volunteers, and to conditions that need improving
  • For you to bring your child to class no earlier than 15 minutes before it begins
  • For you to stay with your child until two approved workers are present
  • For you to sign your child in and out of his/her class
  • For you to monitor your children when they are not under the care of a volunteer. Running in the building is discouraged.
  • Commit to help adequately staff our Children's and Youth ministries and make them all God wants them
